Program Description

This certified course prepares students for the state cosmetology exam and licensing process. Students receive hands-on training in a a clinical salon lab environment in hair dressing and treatments, coloring, chemical processes, facials, nails, and manicuring. Enrollment in this program, offered at a aschool of Cosmetology located in Saginaw, is limited to high school juniors and those seniors who are returning to complete the program. Students must complete 1,500 clock hours of required skills training to be eligible for the Michigan State Board of Cosmetology Licensing Exam.

Special Features

  • Students may participate SkillsUSA, a national organization that provides opportunities to develop teamwork, personal leadership, and career skills valued by employers.
  • Students who are selected to participate in the Cosmetology program will be prepared to take the Michigan State Board of Cosmetology Licensing Exam.
  • Students attend classes Tuesdays thru Saturdays.
  • A clinical salon lab environment provides real world hands-on training with customers.
  • Beginning students will start the Cosmetology program in early August and conclude their first year of study the end of June.
  • Attendance at a parent / student orientation in May is required.
  • First year students must complete 85 percent of the scheduled hours to be eligible for the senior (advanced) program.

Academic Credit

1st Year Students can earn:
4 cr. Cosmetology
2nd Year Students and 1st Year Seniors can earn:
4 cr. Cosmetology
Credit Visual, Performing, and Applied Arts requirement

College Credit

Program completers may who take and pass the Michigan Cosmetology License Examination may qualify to receive 20 Delta College elective credits toward an Associates Degree in the Cosmetology Management program or up to 13 general business credits toward a business degree at Davenport University.

Program Requirements

  • Attendance at Orientation is required
  • Daily attendance is mandatory to accumulate state licensing hours
