Medical Careers

Program Description

Health care is the largest and fasted growing industry in the United States. In this rigorous Tech Prep program, students achieve a solid background in the fundamental of health care and explore a wide variety of health careers. The combination of school-based instruction and work-site interships helps students determine which careers might be right for them. Students will also earn college credits and professional certifications. An Advanced Medical Careers class is available for highly motivated, college bound students.

  • Medical Career Investigations (Therapeutic,Diagnostic, Health Information, and Support Services)
  • CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer

Special Features

  • Students may participate in HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America), a national organization that provides opportunities to develop teamwork, personal leadership, and career skills valued by healthcare providers.
  • 12th grade students will complete and present senior projects.
  • Students participate in on-site career internships at local hospitals and health care facilities for approximately 90 hours of class time during which they participate in and observer medical procedures.
  • Participation in community service projects.
  • Co-op and Paid Work Experience may be available.

Program Requirements

  • Up-to-date immunizations including: Hepatitis B, a negative TB test, and a background check is required by the end of October
  • Adherence to dress code and grooming requirements
  • Uniform must be purchased and is required to be worn daily.
  • Transportation to and from health care facility may be required for specialized career options
  • "C" or better grades in high school math and science courses
  • Good communication skills
  • Text reading Level: 11th grade
  • Participation in clinical internships at healh care facilities are required
