Nursing Occupations

Program Description

This Tech Prep program is an excellent way for students to jump-start their nursing career. This intensive program provides students both academic and technical skill preparation through school-based, laboratory and clinical experiences in hospitals, clinics, and long-term care facilities. Students complete requirements to be certified as a Competency Evaluated Nurse Aide. An Advanced Nursing class is available for highly motivated high school seniors.

Special Features

  • Students may participate in HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America), a national organization that provides opportunities to develop teamwork, personal leadership, and career skills valued by healthcare providers.
  • 12th grade students will complete and present senior projects.
  • Students participate in on-site clinical experiences at local hospitals and long-term health care facilities for approximately 90 hours of class time.
  • Participation in community service projects.
  • Co-op and Paid Work Experience may be available.

Program Requirements

  • Up-to-date Immunizations including: Hepatitis B, a negative TB test, and a background check is required by the end of October.
  • Adherence to dress code and grooming requirements
  • Uniform must be purchased and is required to be worn daily.
  • Sufficient motor function to carry out activities required in of nurse aides
  • Able to do moderate lifting
  • Good communication skills
  • "C" or better grades in high school math and science courses.
  • Reading Level: 11th grade
